A quick glance at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Evidence Analysis Library reveals a few troubling conflicts of interest.
One of the financial contributors to the Aspartame Evidence Analysis Team is Ajinomoto, the world’s largest producer of aspartame.
A few other examples:
* Coca-Cola’s Beverage Institute for Health and Wellness is a financial contributor to the “Hydration Evidence Analysis Team”.
* One of the “expert workgroup” members in the “Diabetes 1 and 2 Evidence Analysis Team” — who is also chair of the Nutritive and Non-Nutritive Sweeteners Evidence Analysis Team — has received honorariums for General Mills, Nestlé, and Kraft.
Also note the following companies and groups, recognized and thanked by AND for their “generous financial support” of Evidence Analysis Library Projects: ConAgra Foods, Inc., Dairy Management, Inc., National Dairy Council, Nestlé Nutrition, PepsiCo, Inc., The Coca-Cola Company.
We believe a science-based organization can serve its members best by minimizing conflicts of interest as much as possible.
