Today’s statement of concern comes from Registered Dietitian Jenna Heller (Twitter handle: @jhell419):
“I am proud of my nutrition education and knowledge. I am qualified to work with many different individuals and groups to enhance their health and well-being through food. I trust studies published by researchers without financial interest in the results, and am not afraid to change my methods of practice as new research emerges.
As a young dietitian making a career path, it frustrates me that some may believe Registered Dietitians are LESS qualified than other nutritionists to provide advice, due to the involvement of our professional organization with Big Food.
Neither these partnerships nor educational materials provided by AND sponsors influence how I practice, and I believe the same to be true for many dietitians. It is discouraging to me that our professional organization often seems to act against the progress of our profession by allowing the influence of Big Food.
Dietitians are well-educated professionals, and deserve to be represented by an organization that values our education and commitment.”
