On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we thought it would be most fitting to share one of our favorite quotes from the courageous civil rights leader:
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
Speaking out is not always the easiest road to traverse. Ridicule and personal attacks come with the territory. Asking tough questions is often stigmatized. At times, it can feel like your voice is drowned out by the chorus of those who cling to the status quo “because that’s just the way it is,” or who frame any thought that differs from the status quo as “negative.”
Every movement in history that has advocated for change has always had nay-sayers, critics, and those who desperately try to shut down the conversation. Silence achieves nothing. Use your voice; respectfully, but passionately. Every time you speak up, you push the movement forward.
Onward.
