We love hard-hitting documentaries about our food system. Earlier this year, we recommended Fed Up, which demonstrated how the ubiquity and artificially low prices of highly processed foods have obliterated American public health.
The newest documentary that has caught our attention is Food Chains, produced by Eric Schlosser (of “Fast Food Nation”) and Eva Longoria. The film focuses on the brutal conditions farmworkers face, and shines a light on migrant tomato pickers in Immokalee, Florida. It has received rave reviews, including this one from The Village Voice.
Dietitians For Professional Integrity Strategic Director Andy Bellatti recently interviewed Eva Longoria for Civil Eats.
As we have mentioned since our inception, the treatment of workers is of utmost importance and should always be considered when thinking about what companies and industries to partner with.
