The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ annual conference (the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo, also known as FNCE) begins this Saturday.
There are some encouraging news: past exhibitors McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, and Yum! Foods (parent company of Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and WingStreet) do not show up on the exhibitor list.
Also, industry-funded sessions have been designated “Foundation Events”, which require a donation to attend and appear separate from the regular program. In previous years, regular sessions were sponsored by the likes of PepsiCo, McDonald’s, or food industry front groups like the International Food Information Council.
There are still some important FYIs to share with our colleagues. Our brand new 2016 FNCE guide (not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) contains:
- Five 2016 FNCE sessions with conflicts of interest that we find concerning;
- A list of DFPI-recommended conflict-free sessions;
- Tips for navigating the expo hall.
