HOD Director Candidate Berit Dockter Answers Our Questions

We have already received our first round of answers from a 2017 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics election candidate.

Berit Dockter MPP, RD, LD, is running for House of Delegates director.

Our questions — and her answers — are below.

Q: What are your thoughts on possible outreach strategies to bring dietitians who are currently not members of the Academy back into the organization?

A: The first strategy I would suggest is a non-member survey. Ask questions like “have you ever been an Academy member and, if yes, what was your reason for not renewing your membership?” and “what benefits would you like to see offered to Academy members?” The results of a survey could help steer a marketing or outreach campaign, or ways the Academy could modify or better advertise benefits.

Q: How would you like to see the current conversation on corporate sponsorship continue over the next year?

A: Continue to focus on transparency and follow Academy Sponsorship Guidelines. The Sponsorship Advisory Task Force, House of Delegates, and other Academy groups listened to member feedback and spent significant time on this issue. The Academy Sponsorship Plan is available on the Academy website for members to review.

Q: What would you like to say to dietitian colleagues who want to see more robust criteria around exhibitor presence and session sponsorship at FNCE?

A: I would advise them to check out the Academy Sponsorship Guidelines and be involved in recommending or voicing concern on sponsors. One person they can contact, for example, is their affiliate or DPG Delegate who represents constituent voices and can connect the dietitian to the right place.

We thank Berit for her prompt response. She also asked that we share her page, which she encourages voters to visit.

If and when other candidates answer these questions, we will share them here as well.
